Walk Wood comprises 9 acres of ancient woodland and is home to songbirds, owls, badgers and deer, among others. It is located near Chenies and Amersham, in the Chilterns AONB, in the beautiful Chess River valley.

This is not a campsite – although it is private land, it is managed for conservation and our experience will be akin to wild camping, on a leave-no-trace basis.

We will meet at 11am at Little Chalfont and Latimer station, and take a 15’ walk to the wood.

  • Pitching Your Campsite: Locating Ideal Camping Spots and Practicing Leave No Trace Principles

Before you settle in for the night, it’s essential to know how to locate the best camping spots and set up your campsite effectively. At Adventure Clinic, we’ll teach you how to properly pitch your tent, set up your kitchen and toilet, and get everything in order for a comfortable night under the stars. Plus, we’ll also provide guidance on Leave No Trace principles to ensure that we leave our environment in pristine condition.
NOTE: there are no facilities available in the woodland.

Preparing Your Camp Kitchen: Tips for Efficient Cooking Outdoors

Cooking outdoors can be a fun and rewarding experience, but it requires some know-how to make sure everything runs smoothly. Our instructors will teach you how to prep your wood for a campfire, as well as the best techniques for using a Ferro rod to start your fire. Additionally, we’ll show you how to make a simple emergency Firestarter using cotton pads and Vaseline, as well as the basics of wood carving for utensils such as spatulas and tent pegs.

  • Water Purification: Ensuring Safe Drinking Water in the Wilderness

When you’re out in the wilderness, clean drinking water is a must. Our course covers the basics of water purification to ensure that you’re able to stay hydrated and healthy throughout your expedition. We’ll also provide tips for packing and carrying water on your trip.

Camp Cooking: Delicious and Nutritious Meals for the Outdoors

Our course includes instruction on camp cooking basics, including how to cook dinner and breakfast on your camp stove or over an open flame. You’ll learn how to make classic campfire meals such as bacon and eggs, as well as vegetable skewers, and porridge. We’ll also provide tips for cleaning up after meals and packing your kitchen equipment.
NOTE: The organizers will furnish bacon and eggs, with bacon cooked over an open flame and eggs cooked in ash. Additionally, vegetable skewers will be grilled over the open flame. For breakfast, we will prepare porridge collaboratively. You may bring your preferred food and drinks, and if you wish, we will assist you in preparing them using the available methods.

Campsite Cleanup: Leave No Trace Principles for a Sustainable Environment

As responsible adventurers, it’s essential to leave our environment in the same condition we found it in. Our instructors will teach you Leave No Trace principles to make sure that you leave your campsite pristine and ready for the next group of adventurers. Additionally, we’ll provide you with some tips for reducing your environmental impact while enjoying the great outdoors. By following these principles, we can ensure that the natural beauty of our environment remains intact for future generations to enjoy.

Please wear appropriate clothes and comfortable shoes, wind and waterproof jacket and trousers in case of rain. We recommend bringing a full change of clothes, and having at least one set of long sleeve and long trousers gear.

Bring your own food, drinks and camping equipment to make yourself comfortable. Some kit may be available for hire, please contact us for details.

Extensive kit list will be provided with the booking confirmation.

Lara Walk Wood HP5

Meet Lara

Woods, like cities, are known by their own names. Walk Wood comes from the “ladies’ walk” of Tudor Chenies Manor. The wood’s 9 acres are brimming with the diverse nature of the Chilterns AONB, an area which has been forested since as far back as 1600 AD. It shelters songbirds, birds of prey, small mammals and is frequented by several species of deer. I’m Walk Wood’s manager and focus on both environmental and what we call social sustainability of the wood. That is, we foster the biodiversity and resilience of our wood and the wildlife it is home to, working with volunteers and the local community. And we make it available for our guests in a responsible way. I’m also an experienced yogi and keen hiker, so I’m very happy to partner with Patryk in organizing safe and enjoyable activities!
